Do You Know Who Your Gold Medal Employees Are?

07/21/08

Every company has them: a handful of employees who give it their all and go above and beyond the call of duty on a regular basis. Keeping this core group of go-getters happy should be your #1 priority.

Here’s how:

Great workers are, for the most part, internally motivated, but never underestimate the power of management approval. Even a simple "thank you” can keep a great worker going.

Give recognition of extra effort.

Cultivate an environment where unproductive employees do not create a burden for productive ones. This means not allowing absenteeism to go unchecked, and having a disciplinary system in place.

Invest in training to keep great performers at the top of their game and feeling that their success is equal to the company’s success.

Don't wait until the Annual Awards Banquet to recognize employees. Offer small treats throughout the year, like a "You Make the Difference" chocolate bar, a gift card or a gift certificate for a local coffee house or diner.
